Stanway Building Solutions — An Ongoing SEO Campaign
A live, ongoing SEO campaign for a Colchester building contractor — real Search Console data, real fixes, published honestly as the results come in rather than dressed up after the fact.
Results
We usually write these once a project’s finished. This one’s still going — and we think that’s actually more useful to show you, not less.
Where we started
Stanway Building Solutions is a Colchester building contractor led by Lee Goddard, a qualified bricklayer with over twenty years’ experience and work that’s featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. The building work speaks for itself. The website wasn’t helping it get found.
When we started, the site was getting around 30 search impressions a week, spread thinly across roughly 29 different search terms, with almost no clicks. No dedicated pages for the services people actually search for — extensions, garage conversions, loft conversions were all buried inside one generic page. Meta descriptions were empty across the board, so Google was writing its own summaries, and they weren’t good ones.
Our approach
We don’t add new content without data to justify it. Before writing a single page, we pulled everything Search Console already knew: what was ranking, what wasn’t, and where the real opportunity sat. Every change from that point was reviewed and approved before it went anywhere near the live site — no bulk automation, no shortcuts, nothing published without a second look.
What we found and fixed
A proper audit turned up problems that were quietly undermining whatever rankings the site did have:
- The same headline copy, word for word, repeated across nine separate project pages — a red flag to Google that usually means “which of these am I actually meant to show people?”
- Two different pages competing for the exact same searches, with Google having already picked a winner and largely ignoring the other
- A genuine technical fault on the server that had been quietly breaking one of the site’s own tools for months, found and fixed
- Lee’s own credentials — a qualified bricklayer with a Grand Designs credit — appearing nowhere on the site at all
Alongside the fixes, we built three new pages from scratch — House Extensions, Garage Conversions, and Loft Conversions — each written around the real questions people search for, not just stuffed with keywords. We also worked on the wider design and lead-capture groundwork this campaign builds on top of.
Where things stand today
Four weeks of real data, tracked honestly:
- Week 1: around 30 impressions, 29 distinct search terms
- Week 3: impressions up 26% on the starting point, search terms broadened to 44
- Week 4: impressions nearly doubled again, and the new service pages started generating their first search visibility
None of this is a finished result yet — some of the new pages are sitting in early positions that still need to climb before clicks follow consistently. We’d rather show you the honest, in-progress numbers than wait months and only show you the tidy version.
What’s next — and where we need Lee’s help too
Good SEO isn’t only what happens on the website. The single biggest opportunity left on the table right now is genuinely simple: more Google reviews. Comparable local competitors have considerably more than Stanway currently does, and it’s one of the strongest trust signals in local search — something only Lee’s own customers can actually provide.
On our side, the next phase is building out area-specific pages for the towns and villages Stanway actually serves, alongside further performance work on the site itself. Like everything else in this campaign, we’ll keep updating this page honestly as the data comes in — not just when the numbers look good.
