Brand Identity Design for an Essex Startup — Logical Lawns
Starting a business with a clear purpose is one thing. Knowing how to communicate that purpose to the world — in a way that resonates with exactly the right customers — is something else entirely.
Logical Lawns founder James Brett had built something worth talking about: an eco-friendly lawn care service for homeowners and businesses who care about sustainability as much as appearance. What he needed was a brand that could say all of that before he’d spoken a single word.
The Challenge
The lawn care market on the Essex and Suffolk border is competitive, and at first glance it can look commoditised. One green logo looks much like another. For Logical Lawns to carve out a meaningful position — especially targeting customers who valued environmental responsibility over the cheapest quote — the brand needed to do serious work.
For a marketing for startups brief like this, the risk is always in rushing straight to logo design. Without understanding what the business truly stands for, and who it’s talking to, you end up with something that looks fine but doesn’t connect. James needed a brand strategy first, visual identity second.
The Approach
We began with a deep-dive discovery phase: market research to understand the competitive landscape, customer persona development to define the ideal audience, and a series of stakeholder conversations to draw out what made Logical Lawns different from every other lawn care company in the region.
What emerged was clear: the brand voice should be knowledgeable and approachable — educating customers on sustainable lawn care, not just selling to them. The brand should feel professional enough for commercial clients but warm enough for busy homeowners who just want a great-looking garden with less environmental guilt.
Our brand identity design process translated those insights into a visual language. Earth tones and lush greens formed the colour palette — natural without being muddy, fresh without being garish. Natural motifs symbolising growth ran through the design system, from the primary logo through to supporting graphic elements.
Typography was chosen deliberately: modern and clean, professional yet accessible. The kind of type that works equally well on a business card and a social media graphic.
The Solution
The finished brand system covered every touchpoint Logical Lawns needed for launch: a primary logo and supporting variants, a complete set of brand guidelines covering colour, typography, tone of voice and usage rules. Business cards, brochures and digital ad templates — all consistent, all immediately recognisable as Logical Lawns.
The social media revamp brought the new visual identity to Instagram and Facebook, with profile overhauls and content templates the team could use going forward without starting from scratch each time.
The website was also redesigned to match — giving Logical Lawns a joined-up presence across every channel from day one.
Our print design and services capability meant the physical materials were produced to the same high standard as the digital work, printed beautifully and ready to use.
The Outcome
The response from James was exactly what we hope for: relief and excitement in equal measure. Having a brand system that captured what he’d always meant by Logical Lawns — but hadn’t quite been able to put into words — gave him the confidence to market the business properly.
Customer feedback on the new brand was positive from the outset, and enquiries increased as the business gained visibility and recognition across the Essex and Suffolk market.
If you’re launching a business and need marketing for startups grounded in genuine strategy — not just a logo — we’d love to talk.
